Apparently BMW actually built an M3 version of the E36 Compact, but only one.
I've always liked the look of the Compact, more so than the coupe or sedan versions and I have no idea why. I also know that the body style seems to be very polarizing with people either loving it or hating it. I just wish this was an actual production car, because I would be scouring the internet for the chance to own one.

Why not build one? E36 M3 drivetrain, suspension, etc. in a Compact. It should all fit, right?

It's actually a pretty common swap from what I found. I'm debating on what I want to do after I graduate from school as far as it comes to cars, but the Compacts I see around are always in rough shape, body wise mechanicals don't matter if I'm doing a swap.

If you ever do it, keep me updated. It's a project I wouldn't mind getting into myself if I could ever afford it. Same reasoning, really.

There's a guy in Phoenix with one (a swap, but a clean one). It was up for sale a year or so ago; I think it made BringATrailer.com.

Will do. It wouldn't be my first time doing an engine swap. I did a 2.5RS to ver 4 STi a year or two ago but I had to sell it before it was finished. This would be a fun car when its all done.

One of the plants in Germany also built a 0ne-off pick-up truck for the bodyshop to use for various hauling duties. I don't have a picture.

I think I would prefer this, despite it not being nearly as reliable if I could fit it in there.

The one I know of would have been from around 2009 or 2010. Could have been the white one.

I know they've made a few might be one for every generation of the M3. I know they use them as the M divisions shop trucks.

Very. Bit like a 90's M135i, except better.

It is indeed. There are few around the Philly area. We've got a strong BMW scene and these get built all the time. S52 prices have been dropping and full swaps can be had for about $2200. OEM M3 suspensions or Bilsteins go for about $150 and then it's the diff, body panels and interior stuff. All in, I'd say you're looking at a 5-6k build if you source your parts well and sell off the old engine and misc. parts.

That's really not bad at all my RSTi project would have cost about that much if I had finished it.

I put an S52 in one of these, it was an absolute riot.
